What gauge is a standard earlobe piercing?
Most UK earlobe piercings are 20g (0.8mm) or 18g (1.0mm) when done with a needle, and a little smaller when done with a piercing gun. Some piercers use 16g (1.2mm) on request so the lobe can take heavier rings later. Jewellery must match the gauge of your piercing, so if you are unsure, a 20g or 18g labret is the safe assumption for a typical lobe piercing, and 16g for one that was pierced for stretching.

Should I wear a stud or a hoop in a new lobe piercing?
A flat-back labret stud is the better choice for a fresh lobe piercing. It does not move through the piercing channel, so it causes less irritation while the tissue heals, and the flat disc sits comfortably against the ear when you sleep. Hoops look great once healed, typically after 2 to 3 months, when the lobe can tolerate the slight movement of a ring without becoming sore.
Why do my earrings make my ears itch or go green?
Itching, redness or a green tinge on the skin almost always means the earrings contain nickel or a plating that is wearing through, which is common in fashion jewellery. ASTM F136 implant-grade titanium contains no nickel and does not corrode, so it removes the cause rather than masking it.
